Peter Gleick knows drinking water. He is a world-renowned scientist and water expert and a MacArthur Foundation “genius.” The BBC has called him an environmental visionary.

So if Gleick drinks water from the tap, why don’t the rest of us? The answer is that bottled water ranks as one of the most successful commercial products of the last one hundred years. Gleick details that success and its many downsides in his new book Bottled & Sold: The Story Behind Our Obsession with Bottled Water.
