It’s finally nearly here – tomorrow, New York City Transportation Commissioner Janette Sadik-Khan speaks at Occidental College! She’ll be receiving an honorary degree, and delivering the Antoinette and Vincent M. Dungan Lecture on Energy and the Environment – telling the incredible success story of making New York City streets safer and more livable… igniting a bicycle, pedestrian and transit renaissance.
The event is free, though we’re requesting folks pre-register online at www.lastreetsummit.org (sign up for Saturday’s all-day StreetSummit there, too!) It takes place at Keck Theater, near the top of the hill at Occidental College in Eagle Rock. There will be complimentary bike parking!
If you’ve (gasp!) never been to Occidental College, we figured that we’d give you some bicycling directions. After the jump are basic bicycle routes/directions from Downtown L.A., the Metro Gold Line, and from Hollywood/Silver Lake. If you don’t see the way from the place where you are, try Google’s new bike directions or put your bike on Metro. The campus address is 1600 Campus Road, LA 90041. And, if you’re carpooling, here are driving directions.
FROM DOWNTOWN L.A.:
Head up through Chinatown on North Broadway, then wiggle over to Cypress Avenue, which turns into Eagle Rock Boulevard. From the historic Bradbury Building to Keck Theater: 7 miles.
FROM THE METRO GOLD LINE:
The closest Metro station is the Highland Park Metro Gold Line Station. From there, cut through the neighborhood (and avoid hills) by taking Avenue 61/Avenue 57 to York Boulevard. Ride west on either York Blvd or the quieter parallel bike route Meridian Street. From the Highland Park Station to Keck Theater: 3 miles.
FROM HOLLYWOOD / SILVER LAKE:
The route goes Silver Lake Boulevard to Fletcher, then take Estara (to avoid a small hill on Fletcher where it turns into Avenue 36) and head up the bike lanes on Eagle Rock Boulevard. From Los Angeles Eco-Village to Keck Theater: 7 miles.
